Abstract
This paper highlights current household waste management practices and associated
costs in the city of Tiassale in Côte d'Ivoire. The collection of information
involved documentary research, direct observation, focus group and
questionnaire. The study indicates that current domestic waste management
practices concern the disposal of waste in garbage cans (78%) and the disposal
of waste by a member of the household (52%). Moreover, the perceptions of
households linked to the waste management system reveal the non-organization of
this system (82.1%). The absence of garbage bins (79.8%), the absence of a
pick-up truck (71.6%) and the absence of a pre-collector (52.6%). Under these
conditions, households' non-satisfaction with the waste management system is
significant (53.2%). Therefore, these populations advocate a collection of waste
in the morning before 9 am (55.8%) and a settlement of the costs of collecting
garbage both free (7.1%) and periodic, in particular weekly (36.7 %), Daily
(24.2%), monthly (22.6%). Thus, all these concerns must be taken into account
in planning actions to improve waste management in this locality.
