Abstract
With the increasing adoption of digital technology, online shopping is becoming a significant part of consumers' daily consumption activities. Against this backdrop, this study empirically examines the impact of online shopping on the spending patterns of consumers in the Sangli district. Primary data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 400 consumers who had made at least one online purchase in the preceding 12 months, utilizing a proportionate stratified sampling method. The collected data was analyzed using frequency, percentage, and relevant statistical tests. The study reveals significant trends regarding the frequency of online shopping, mobile app usage, and monthly online expenditure, additional purchases driven by discounts and offers, and impulse buying. Furthermore, 52.50% of consumers reported an increase in total monthly expenditure due to online shopping, while 47.50% noted a reduction in spending on offline purchases; meanwhile, 43.75% of consumers experienced a negative impact on their savings. A statistical analysis was also conducted to examine the relationship between the frequency of online shopping and changes in spending habits. These findings indicate that online shopping is evolving beyond a mere alternative to traditional shopping; it is emerging as a key factor influencing consumers' spending decisions and consumption patterns. Consequently, planned expenditure, financial discipline, digital financial literacy, and consumer awareness have assumed significant importance.
